South Stage Cellars’ Rising Stars Competition Begins February 28, 2015

Fourth annual competition continues its efforts to raise money for a local non-profit while supporting local musicians

JACKSONVILLE, OR – The fourth annual South Stage Cellars’ Rising Stars competition commences on February 28, 2015 in Jacksonville. The competition, which works to both showcase local musicians and raise money for a local non-profit, will continue each following Saturday until the final round on March 28, 2015. As with previous years, the public is encouraged to attend the event each weekend and vote for his or her favorite artist, with all voting proceeds benefitting local non-profit LIFE Art.  LIFE Art gives local teens a creative outlet for expression and an alternative to anxiety, substance abuse, depression and suicidal ideation. Past beneficiaries include CASA of Jackson County, La Clinica and the Britt Institute’s music education programs.   Unlike previous years, the fourth annual competition includes a judge’s panel for the semi-final rounds and both the judge’s vote and the popular vote will be considered. The final round is based solely off of the popular vote and winners from each semi-final round will compete in the final round.   South Stage Cellars’ Rising Stars is open to local musicians of a variety of genres who are interested in competing for the top prize while helping raise money for LIFE Art.  In past years, winners have received prizes including: a cash prize, recording time at a local state-of-the-art recording studio, an interview with Southern Oregon Magazine and large amounts of local recognition, among others.   South Stage Cellars’ Rising Stars invites any local musicians interested in competing to send in a video (amateur videos welcome) or music link with photo entry showcasing their musical talent to porscha111@gmail.com. Entries will be accepted starting on October 1, 2014.   If you are not a musician, but want to help South Stage Cellars’ Rising Stars competition, please consider a sponsor donation benefiting LIFE Art. Please contact Porscha Schiller at (541) 840-5453 or porscha111@gmail.com for information on how to become involved.   About South Stage Cellars   Situated in a beautiful building built in 1865 in the heart of historic Jacksonville, South Stage Cellars is Oregon’s only vineyard-based tasting room. South Stage Cellars features live local music three times a week and offers locally produced food selections.     About LIFE Art Life Art logo The LIFE Art (Live. Inspire. Freedom of Expression.) program uses visual and creative arts as a means for youth to express their feelings and communicate with others about their experiences. Art projects address the multiplicity of the issues young people are involved in. Factors of family relationships, school experiences, substance use, community risk factors (i.e., gangs, criminality) and cultural pressures are all addressed through guided discussions from caring adults and Life Art Mentors.
